Meet the Characters
Dan
Dan is a lad (not unlike the author’s son) who loves to hear his Grandpa’s stories, especially the one about the Blue Whale, larger than the dinosaurs. He longs for adventure and sets sail in his little boat using the stars as his guide. Each day his journeys, brings a new sea creature that he learns about, or hardship he endures, but at long last, he finally discovers the Blue Whale. And it is as grand as his Grandfather told him it would be.
Grandpa
Grandpa is a bearded old sea dog who loves to boast about his experiences as a sailor. He likes to wear his old captain’s sea cap and waves his hands excitedly while recapturing his exploits at sea. His grandson, Dan, loves to sit with his grandfather and hear him tell stories about his adventures; his favourite story is about the one time that Grandpa saw the biggest animal that ever lived: the great Blue Whale. Motivated by his love for grandpa's story, Dan sails away hoping to find his own blue whale and, little did he know, a great adventure rises upon him.
The Blue Whale
The Blue Whale is the biggest animal that has ever lived and yet is one of the most elusive. Dan’s Grandpa boasts of having seen one and this sets Dan off on his quest to find the mysterious Blue Whale. There are hardships that he must endure in search of his dream but it is all worth it when he finally finds exactly what he's been searching for. The Blue Whale turns out to be even more wonderful than Dan had imagined, and the real fun begins!
